Tyler Knarr, whose career at two-time state champion La Salle was hindered by recurring knee problems, has suffered yet another setback at the start of his college career at Georgetown.

Inside Lacrosse.com has reported that Knarr, a two-time All-American long-stick midfielder, will undergo knee surgery on his troubled anterior cruciate ligament and may miss the 2010 season.

The announcement was made by Hoyas coach Dave Urick, Insidelacrosse.com reported.

Contacted Thursday, Georgetown officials refused comment on the report.

Knarr, Inside Lacrosse’s No. 12 incoming freshman, missed the last six weeks of the 2009 season when his rebuilt knee acted up again this spring. Knarr missed the Explorers’ run to the first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) championship, but continued to rehabilitate his knee and decided to play in the Under Armour All-American game in late June.

Knarr looked like his old self in the game for the North and was dominant at the face-off X as well as the midfield area, prompting many to believe he was ready to go for the Fall Ball season. This year, he was expected to serve as a key backup to senior LSM Barney Ehrmann.

“It was an honor to play in this event and I was so excited when I heard that I’d be on the team,” Knarr told Phillylacrosse.com after the Under Armour game. “I think my knee held up good. I’m still a little slow and I need to get that lateral ability back, but I’m definitely improving. It will probably take a full year to get back.”

Knarr was a First-Team All-Phillylacrosse.com pick in 2008 when he missed the final five weeks of the season. Before his injury, Knarr was considered one of the top juniors in the country.

Knarr was a first-team All-Catholic League and All-Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association pick in 2008 and 2009.
