Radnor senior midfielder Ellie Kraus has committed to play Division I lacrosse at Vanderbilt University.

Kraus, an Honorable Mention All-Phillylacrosse.com pick, was one of a standout junior group that led the Red Raiders to the first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) championship and a 25-1 record in 2009.  She collected 30 goals 15 assists, 45 ground balls, 25 draw controls and 10 interceptions and was a member of the Philly team that placed third in the Under Armour Underclassmen tournament in June.

Kraus will join familiar faces at Vanderbilt. Fellow senior Alyssa Dunlap (defender) committed to Vanderbilt several months earlier and two others from Radnor are already at Vanderbilt – sophomore twins Kelly and Kacie Connors.

Kraus plans to study education, but has not chosen a major.

“I always wanted to go down south, and I heard it was a great academic school,” said Kraus. “It has good weather and a great lacrosse program. It all clicked together; I fell in love with the campus. It’s all spread out, with gorgeous grass fields and brand new brick buildings.

“The freshmen dorms are amazing, and the whole team was a selling point. I met all the freshmen. They’re so welcoming.”

Kraus was glad to follow Dunlap.

“She committed two months before me,” said Kraus. “I talked to her about the school and got to check it out. Alyssa and I have always gotten along really well, and I fell in love with it.”

Besides Kraus and Dunlap, Radnor has four more seniors that have committed to Division I colleges; midfielders Allie Martin (Penn) and Kelyn Freedman (Georgetown), defender Andrea Feldman (Bucknell) and attack Courtney Campbell (Richmond). The Raiders lose only three seniors and will probably be the favorite to repeat as state champs.

“Last year we had the most bonded team ever,” Kraus said. “We hung out every day, and we still talk all the time. This coming year we should have high expectations. Hopefully, we can live up to it.”

Seniors can sign National Letters of Intent during the early signing period Nov. 11-18.
