Ridley junior defender/midfielder Kelsey Garraty has made a verbal commitment to attend Louisville for 2010-2011.
Garraty, a first-team All-Central League pick this year, will join Green Raiders teammate Shaela Allen, who heads to Louisville this fall.
“Actually, I heard about Louisville before I knew Shaela was going there,” said Garraty. “But one day I heard her talking about it and then I started to talk to them.
“From there, I made my visit and I really liked it.”
Louisville just finished its second year of lacrosse and had a solid 10-7 season, going 3-4 in the Big East. There are a number of Philly grads playing regularly, including top scorer Bergan Foley (Gwynedd Mercy Academy) and defender Kelsey McDowell (Penn Charter).
Also, one of the top assistants is Springfield-Delco graduate Lisa Staedt.
Garraty said she intends to major in education or in physical training. “It’s really homey there,” she said. “The campus is in a city, but it’s not a city-city. It’s like a small town atmosphere.
“It also makes it a lot easier that Shaela and I are really close.”
Garraty is excited about playing for a new program that is already showing success. “I think it’s awesome,” she said. “It’s not a huge name like a UNC, but it’s up-and-coming. It gives you a chance to make the (lineup).”
