Backup goalie Kevin Keenan (Springfield-Delco) stopped 27 of the 38 shots he faced to earn game MVP honors to lead the Philadelphia Barrage to a 16-11 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) victory over the host Boston Cannons Saturday at Harvard Stadium.
A crowd of 8,648 fans saw the Barrage (7-4) take over second place in the Eastern Conference by rallying from a 5-2 deficit and dominating the rest of the game.
Ray Colsey (two goals) scored nearly five minutes into the second quarter to spark a 10-0 run for the Barrage. In the surge were two-point goals by Ryan Boyle (four goals, one assist) and Kevin Cassese. Cassese, the head coach at Lehigh, was making his first appearance in two months.
Keenan was filling in for three-time Goalie of the Year Brian Dougherty (Episcopal Academy), who was with a viral infection.
Mikey Powell had four goals for the Cannons (6-5).
Riptide 15, San Francisco Dragons 9
Xander Ritz (Radnor) and Bill McGlone (Ridley) scored two goals, but the visiting Dragons (3-8) fell in their MLL contest. Ryan Cranston (Henederson) scored a two-point goal for San Francisco and Mike Podgajny (Ridley) added one tally while Greg Gurenlian (Springfield-Delco) had an assit and won 19 of 27 face-offs. gave MVP Kevin Huntley had seven goals to pace the Riptide.
Matt Striebel added three goals and an assist for Philadelphia and Jed Prossner and Michael Springer each gad two goals and an assist. Prossner was making his first appearance in a game since May 25th. He suffered a broken hand against the Long Island Lizards and has been out of the
