Philadelphia Barrage goalkeeper Brian Dougherty (Episcopal Academy) has been named the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Goalkeeper of the Week for the second straight week.
Dougherty earned his fifth career Goalkeeper of the Week award after posting a season-high 28 saves in the Barrage’s 16-14 victory over Boston on Thursday night. He made 15 of those saves in the first half as the Barrage jumped out to a 12-6 half-time lead and snapped the Cannons’ three-game win streak.
Dougherty, who has won the Goalkeeper of the Week for an MLL-record third time this season, has stopped 66.7 per cent of the shots he has faced over the last two games while making 52 saves. He ranks third in the league with a .571 save percentage in eight games.
Meanwhile, New Jersey Pride attackman and Philadelphia Wings rookie standout Merrick Thomson was named as the Offensive Player of the Week while Long Island Lizards midfielder Peter Vlahakis earned his fourth Defensive Player of the Week award this season, including his second straight honor.
