The Philadelphia Barrage are struggling.
The two-time defending champions dropped their second straight game and fell to 2-2 Thursday when they suffered a 22-12 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) loss to the host Long Island Lizards before a crowd of 3,148.
The stat sheet told all: Long Island outshot the Barrage, 40-21, and won 24 of 36 face-offs. The Lizards (2-2) took a 9-6 halftime lead and poured it on in the final quarter when they outscored Philadelphia, 8-3.
Seth Goldberg and Mike Springer led the Barrage with three goals apiece while Ray Colsey (two-pointer) added two goals and an assist. Justin Smith, Matt Striebel and Bobby Horsey (West Chester East) added single tallies and goalie Brian Dougherty (Episcopal Academy) made 12 saves in three quarters of work.
Ben Rubeor was named the MVP for his three-goal performance in his first full MLL game.
