District 1 girls’ playoffs: Patriots, Panthers and Cougars advance

Kim Wenger had a brilliant day with eight goals and seven assists to lead host Great Valley to a 25-4 rout of Phoenixville Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the District One Class AA playoffs.

The win pushed the top-seeded Patriots (18-3) into a semifinal game Saturday against Ches-Mont American Conference rival Unionville. The time of the games will be determined following the Class AAA quarterfinals Wednesday.

Emily Ellisen, Keelin Hood and Haley Sheehan added three goals each for Great Valley while Colleen O’Malley, Nina Kipphorn and Brittany Greaves had two apiece. Steph Berger posted nine saves for the Pats.
Liz Jones led the Phantoms (11-7) with a hat trick.

Strath Haven 20, Pottstown 6
Annalise Penikis collected six goals and three assists as the host Panthers whipped the Trojans to reach the semifinals where they will face Central League rival Springfield-Delco.

Emily Garrity had four goals and three assists for third-seeded Strath Haven (18-3) and Ana White had two goals and five assists. Julie Hayward and Kelly Ruffini each netted three goals.

Maure Perrymond and Kasey Mock led the Trojans with two goals apiece for Mock, a sophomore, it was her 100th tally of the season.


Springfield-Delco 17, Merion Mercy 5

Maddie Poplawski had four goals and two assists and Rebecca Hartrum contributed three goals and two assists to help the host Cougars (17-3) ease past the Bears (13-7).

Shannon Burns and Taylor Broome had two goals apiece for second-seeded Springfield while Theresa Testa led Merion Mercy with two goals while Emily Corcoran had a goal and an assist.
